Arc Flash Analysis & Mitigation Services

As a leading electrical engineering services firm, Enertia Engineering Ltd. offers expert Arc Flash Analysis and Arc Flash Mitigation Services to companies seeking to meet electrical safety compliance standards, such as the CSA Z462 Standard set by the Canadian Standards Association. Canadian legislation has now made it mandatory for all facilities with three-phase electrical power to properly identify and protect workers against risk associated with shock hazard and arc flash. Depending on your specific needs, Enertia Engineering Ltd. can conduct an arc flash hazard analysis or study, as well as arc flash mitigation, of your workplace facilities to help you ensure compliance with these safety standards. Services include printing & labeling pertinent electrical equipment.

More information on Arc Flash

What is an arc flash?

An arc flash, or arc blast, is a sudden, quick, and highly unstable energy discharge. Flashes happen when a phase-to-ground or phase-to-phase conductor connects and creates a fault condition or short circuit. Many factors can cause this connection, including improper work techniques.

Arc Flash Hazard Analysis

Arc flash hazard analysis is a mathematical method that determines a facility’s potential level of risk using the CSA Z462 Standard set by the Canadian Standards Association. This standard elaborates on labeling, language, safety and additional Canada-specific issues and bases its procedures on the existing IEEE Standard 1584 and American NFPA 70E standard for electrical safety. This analysis can be used, in conjunction with an electrical safety program, by industries and companies operating at-risk facilities to effectively and efficiently protect staff; update existing facilities; and improve the design of new facilities. Enertia Engineering Ltd. currently employs advanced ETAP Arc Flash Analysis Software and labeling tools which meets all requirements of these standards.

Arc Flash Mitigation

Enertia Engineering Ltd. offers specialized engineering expertise in arc flash mitigation. Once an arc flash analysis has been performed, specific locations throughout a facility may be identified as “problem” areas (i.e., arc flash incident energy levels are higher than expected in these areas). Enertia Engineering Ltd. applies a signature series of techniques to recommend methods to reduce (or mitigate) the arc flash level.

Arc flash hazard analysis is a safety related “must do” for commercial, industrial, and utility electrical power systems. For more information on how Enertia Engineering Ltd. can help you calculate, conduct, and implement arc flash hazard analysis and/or mitigation quickly, cost-effectively, and accurately, Contact Us.
